In the paper is presented the methodology of theoretical research through simulation based upon virtual prototype of kinematics of mechanisms cam-rocking which are a part of gear boxes with intermittent working. Theoretical modeling through virtual prototype enable to assess the functionality of gear boxes with intermittent working, since the early stages of design and offers the possibility of achieving functional optimization to obtain a correlation between the type of mechanism used, the number of mechanisms which are mounted in parallel, the number of lobes of the cam and the transmission range of reports to be provided by gear box. In this paper, given the facilities provided, the design and simulation software ProEngineer mechanisms was used. Through this we wanted to develop a virtual prototype of a gearbox with intermittent operation, which is composed of a cam type mechanism - oscillating rocker, which corresponds to the functional point of view of workflow requirements.
